About A Safe Place for Veterans
Our mission
A Safe Place for Veterans empowers Veterans and their families, especially those experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk, to achieve safe, stable, permanent housing and greater self-sufficiency through compassionate, trauma-informed, Veteran-centered services.
We intend to work alongside the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, local Continuums of Care, public agencies, landlords, employers, health and legal providers, and community organizations, so that every Veteran has a safe place to call home.
The principles that guide us
- Veteran choice. Services follow the preferences and needs of each Veteran, with respect for their dignity.
- Trauma-informed, Veteran-centered care. Every program is delivered with respect for privacy and individual circumstances.
- Progressive assistance. The right level of help, matched to each Veteran's situation, and adjusted as it changes.
- Equitable access. Services are offered without unlawful discrimination, with reasonable accommodations, based on need and available resources.
- Coordinated entry. We work with community partners so Veterans get help efficiently and do not fall through the cracks.
- Privacy and confidentiality. Participant information is protected.
How we are governed
A Safe Place for Veterans will be governed by a volunteer Board of Directors of three to eleven members, with experience in Veteran services, housing, finance, law, health and social services, and lived experience. Directors serve without pay. The Board will meet at least quarterly, adopt an annual budget, and oversee legal, grant, and financial compliance.
Our governance documents, including our conflict-of-interest and whistleblower commitments, are described on our Transparency page.
